Put Bennett in the same predicament as Powroznik – his beds were empty and he had to scramble. He caught his first fish at 9:30 though – 2 hours early than Powroznik's first mark.
Notable for Bennett is he has the chance to make his second consecutive cut, which he said is a goal for him this week – one he's wanted to achieve for a long time.
"I feel real good right now because the day started so horrible," he said. "I had a bunch of bed-fish, or so I thought. Then I just went fishing and caught one. Then I ended up running to another bed-fish that was there, caught it on my first cast, and built a little momentum from there.
"Then I started running around again and fishing new water. Obviously, things changed big-time today compared to practice."
He said he was flipping a Tru-Tungsten jig around docks and some dirtier water, and he scored a 4-pounder on a Tru-Tungsten swimbait. "That's like catching an 8-pounder in most lakes," he said.
"I just caught one here, one there. I have nothing solid – nothing I'm going back to. A lot of people are fishing the same stuff and the fish are getting beat up pretty hard. I think the weights will drop pretty hard tomorrow."
